Sustaining a Positive Mindset

Have you ever come across someone who is exceptionally bubbly and seems to be bursting with life? They most likely have a positive mindset and see the good in even the most challenging situations. The perspective you hold of your life and your current situation is essential. If you are always putting yourself down or complaining, there is a flood of negativity. Other people unconsciously feel the energy you carry with you. Confidence, positivity, and robustness stand out and are attractive to other people. Almost everyone wants to be around someone pleasant and vibrant. That energy is contagious, and we find ourselves gravitating towards these types of people.

Having a positive mindset can change your life in many ways. Sometimes we wake up in the morning and may simply not feel it. We may not want to go to work or make our bed, or even take a shower. The days may run together, and life may seem mundane and complacent. If you are feeling this way, you are not alone. It takes time and energy to foster a positive mindset. The change in your life will not happen overnight, but if you are determined to get out of a rut and make a difference in your life, it is possible!

Start the Day With a Positive Affirmation

How you start the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Starting the day with a positive affirmation can help you begin your day on a light note. This positive affirmation may be based on your appearance when you look in the mirror or an attribute you appreciate yourself. For example, “My skin looks great today” or “I am kind to others.” This affirmation could be counting your blessings or being thankful for something small. For example, “I am thankful for my spouse” or “I am blessed with my great health.” Positive affirmations work most effectively when you do them consistently every day.

Help Others

When we help others, it gives us a feeling of purpose and meaning. Instead of being wrapped up in our own lives, helping others gives us a change of pace by moving our attention to our external environment. This change of pace is beneficial for training our brain to look outside of ourselves. When we help others, our sense of self-worth tends to increase. We begin to feel more plugged into society and useful as an individual.

Replace Negative Thoughts With Positive Ones

It can be hard to challenge negative thoughts, but if you practice this technique often, your life will feel brighter and less stressful. The negative perspective you hold of your life will slowly dissipate and eventually cease to exist. Of course, bad days happen. We can look at our day and say, “Wow, that was tough. Why do bad things always happen to me?” Or we can look at our day and say, “That was tough, but so am I.” Our brains are wired to believe the things we continuously tell ourselves. If we consistently talk negatively about ourselves, we will learn to accept them. Positive self-talk will eventually lead to a positive self-view. It may feel silly at first, but it will pay off as you continue to practice!

Sweat It Out

Exercise helps to relieve stress, increase self-esteem, and boost overall mood. Have you ever heard the saying, “You look good, you feel good?” If you are feeling groggy and lazy, exercise can help spark motivation. Daily exercise contributes to a rush of endorphins, making you feel satisfied and accomplished. It also leads to better sleep and increased cognitive functioning.

Grow Where You are Planted

It is essential to invest in where you are currently. Many people move from job to job, or from city to city, never really getting involved. Growing where you are planted means taking the initiative and plugging into the place you are at right now. Form connections in your community by going to a local church, talking to neighbors, or hanging out with coworkers. Nourish the relationships you do have and allow the roots of your identity to deepen instead of chasing another life. Your mindset will become innately more positive when there is a feeling of connection within your community.

Remind Yourself of What You Can Control

The only thing you can control is yourself. Just as anyone can become physically strong, anyone can become mentally strong. We can manifest positivity, creativity, and goodness to create a space that no negative thing can influence.

Sustaining a positive mindset takes some time and effort. Believing in yourself and being kind to others is attractive and will get you far in life.
